About Me
I received my MSW in 1995 from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2001. In other words, I've spent a lot of time building both professional and personal experience navigating life's challenges! I have several years of medical social work experience supporting women through the joys and struggles of the prenatal through postpartum period, including the trials of parenting (grown-up children can be tough to parent, too). I've also worked with older adults and their caregivers, and know the complexities of supporting loved ones with health issues, dementia, and end-of-life concerns. As a therapist for over a decade, I've partnered with adults of all ages managing a range of issues including: depression and anxiety, family and relationship distress, chronic illness and pain, work/life balance, grief and loss, stress management, struggles with eating and body image, and complex trauma. My Practice Style A positive therapeutic relationship is essential for helping clients feel safe and supported while challenging themselves to develop new skills. My style is relaxed and informal, but grounded in evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). These strategies encompass a range of interventions, including mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and DBT-based approaches. I use many examples, metaphors and humor to help make the process more accessible and relevant to each person's unique situation. Above all, my role is to support you in reclaiming your strengths , and to 'get better at feeling' by building lifelong coping skills. I consider it a privilege to share in my clients' growth! |
